Belgravia Apparel (formerly Bizwear) has designed a new uniform range for staff at The Star Sydney’s new $250m Sovereign Room.
The bespoke room for VIPs is a luxurious gaming area featuring:
- harbour views
- sunken bar
- 15 handcrafted chandeliers
- international artworks
- private gaming rooms and dining areas
Belgravia Apparel and The Star have a trusted relationship that includes an existing uniform range, and for the illustrious Sovereign Room, The Star needed new uniforms that would reinforce the luxury aesthetic.
The Challenge
Our design team met with The Star management to understand key aspects of the brief, including:
- branding imperatives
- styling
- security
- various job roles
- refining the look for different precincts of the Sovereign Room
The team presented conceptual designs, fabric swatches and accessory details for discussion. Early wearer trials of the 40 different styles in the range ensured the garments were functional, well-fitted and stylish.
‘The Star asked us to coordinate a personal fitting for each of the 2,500 employees, which we achieved with a fitting team of 10 people working both day and night shifts,’ says Mike Gluning, General Manager, Uniforms (Australia) at Belgravia Apparel. ‘By individually fitting and adjusting hem lengths for each employee, we helped create the premium look Star was seeking.‘
We partnered with Lawrence Dry Cleaners to coordinate the alteration service, barcode labelling of each garment and integration with the InvoTech carousel storage system.
The Seamless Result
The process was a massive logistical exercise for Bizwear and the results have been well received by Star management and employees.
‘Belgravia Apparel provided the professional guidance and support that was required to successfully plan, design, manufacture, supply and fit thousands of uniform garments,’ says Sandra Thefs, Senior Manager Guest Experience Transformation at The Star.
‘The 24/7 nature of The Star’s largest integrated resort property provided numerous challenges that Belgravia Apparel meticulously planned for. The workforce is multi-divisional, each with their own uniform requirements and the 24/7 operations meant Bizwear had to plan to roll the uniforms out to fit in with team members’ rostered shift times.
From first meeting to last, Belgravia Apparel were consistent in the high level of support required to successfully complete this roll-out in time for the opening of this very special gaming space.’
As an expression of appreciation, The Star included Belgravia Apparel in its ‘Avenue of Partners’ at the launch of the Sovereign Room.
